Climate change can radically influence tourism activity, changing tourist destinations and the structure of seasonal demand. Direct impacts act through changes in tourism seasonality and shifts in the seasonal operating costs.Indirect impacts of climate change include changes in available water resources, loss of biodiversity, decline of the aesthetic level of the landscape, alteration of agricultural productivity (e.g. wine tourism), increased likelihood for the occurrence of natural hazards, coastal erosion, increased vector-borne diseases, infrastructure damage. Climate change will accelerate structural changes in tourism; it is necessary to assess the potential impact on the tourism sector as well as to identify, plan and develop measures to reduce possible economic, social and environmental impacts.
