Energy

Climate change affects the energy sector in terms of production, as well as in terms of energy transport, distribution and supply conditions. Risks include reduced efficiency rates of all types of power generation plants (based on renewable or non-renewable sources), as well as damage to the energy infrastructure caused by extreme events. The energy sector is one of the main contributors to anthropogenic GES emissions and therefore ensuring the resilience of this sector to climate change is essential for the EU climate action, the 'European Climate Law' and the 'Fit for 55' package will lead to the stimulation of a substantial decarbonization of the EU's energy sector. Based on information and guidance from the EU Adaptation Strategy and Cohesion Policy documents, Europe intends to invest specifically in climate-resilient infrastructure, so as to specifically create a renewable energy infrastructure.
