The impact of climate change is already visible in the insurance sector, resulting in increased costs of claims and losses caused by extreme weather events. The intensification of these events has become a major long-term threat in the insurance sector, and concrete measures are needed in this area by integrating the effects of climate change into business strategy, risk management, insurance product design and claims management. In Romania, the most frequent extreme weather phenomena, which have led to the opening of claims files, are torrential rains, hail, storms and prolonged drought. The most numerous damages produced by these phenomena are registered in the agricultural field, but other insurance segments are also affected (properties, small and medium enterprises etc.).
